Historique :	Modèle réalisé pour le mausolée de François Wellz (1846-1922), très riche diamantaire parisien. Il fait élever de son vivant une sorte de temple néo-grec en granit rose et bronze au cimetière Bourillon de Chantilly (Oise) et fait appel à Desvergnes pour le décor de bronze. Le sculpteur réalise cette tête en applique sur le soubassement et une allégorie de l'Amitié sur le sarcophage, à l'intérieur de la cella. Comme Chapu, Desvergnes a pratiqué l'art de la médaille. Il a reproduit par ce moyen le portrait du commanditaire.
