Historique :	Ce projet fait partie d'un ensemble de fontaines d'intérieur à sujet mythologique que Desvergnes a réalisé. Elles étaient destinées à décorer des salles à manger, où elles devaient servir de rafraîchissoirs. La volupté dont Desvergnes fait preuve dans ce type d'oeuvre le rapproche d'un courant de la sculpture qu'on a appelé le "néo-baroque" français.
