Historique :	Cette sculpture est une commande du président de la Cour d'appel d'Orléans. Celui-ci avait été impressionné par la très belle représentation du Christ en bronze réalisée par Mahlknecht. Le ministre de l'intérieur donna suite à cette requête et la Cour d'appel d'Orléans acquit en 1851 une réplique par Mahlknecht de l'oeuvre du palais de justice de Tours. Autrefois placé dans la salle des Jurés du Palais de justice d'Orléans, ce Christ en croix se trouve aujourd'hui à l'église Saint-Marc.
